It all began with a new year’s resolution: we would finally create and publish our first computer game! We had previously made a couple of overly ambisious attempts at making a game, that we never were able to finish. Based on those experiences, we decided to this time make a game with limited scope and complexity. After doing some research on classical puzzles and games, we decided that the tower of Hanoi puzzle would be a good fit for us.
To put our own twist on it, we would build the tower in the form of a snowman. We really liked the sound of our project title «The Snowman from Hanoi», though it did sound kind of far fetched… But much to our surprise, a web search taught us that indeed there was a snowfall in the Hanoi region in January 2016! So the project title stayed, and went on to be the title of the finished game.
We used the Godot Game Engine for programming the game. The first sketches for the graphics were made in Procreate (iPad) – the final art was made with Affinity Designer (iPad).
First sketch of our Snowman from Hanoi game screen, made with Procreate.
After a couple for months of development and polishing, this is what the end result looks like.
Well, we are not really a proper game studio yet, but perhaps some day 🙂
In 2021 we aim to release six small, free (and probably unfinished) games. We think it is better to publish a game with a small scope, than to never finish it.
The first “release” will be about a snowman that you have to save before it melts, using the classical tower of Hanoi rules. Please download the game and save the snowman!
We believe that computer games is an important form of art. With this in mind we aim to share interesting stories, art and characters through the medium of games.
